Quick action: Next time they cut out, notice where you are  a packed vehicle, a market lane, next to someone else’s phone  not just that you are angry. The place is the clue.

This is the audio version of a bad Wi-Fi day. The buds are fine at home. You sit down on a ring-road bus and the left one becomes a ghost. You tap it. You reset it. You blame the brand. Sometimes the brand deserves it. A lot of the time you just drove a 2.4 GHz radio into a rolling metal box full of other radios.

Bluetooth and cheap Wi-Fi share a crowded slice of air. A bus is steel, bodies, and forty phones. Your earbuds are whispering. The bus is shouting.

What usually fixes it, in the order I try

1. Put the phone on the same side as the main bud, and not in a backpack.

The signal is coming from your pocket or hand, not from space. A phone in a bag against the window, buds in your ears, a dozen people in between  that is a long way for a small radio. Front pocket or a jacket beats a backpack.

2. Forget the device and pair again.

Settings → Bluetooth → tap the earbuds → Forget. Put them in the case, open it, pair clean. Old pairings get weird after a phone update. Official-ish paths:

• Android: Connect Bluetooth
• iPhone: Connect Bluetooth accessories

3. Turn off the extra Bluetooth hangers-on.

A forgotten watch, a scooter helmet, a speaker you used once at a picnic your phone may still be glancing at them. Disconnect what you are not wearing.

4. One device at a time.

“Seamless switch” between laptop and phone sounds grown-up until both devices argue in a tunnel. Pause the laptop. Play from one place.

5. Update the bud app if the brand has a real one.

Samsung, Google, Apple, Sony, a few others ship firmware in their own app. Install from the official store, let it sit on charge, update. Random “booster” apps do not speak Bluetooth firmware.

6. Accept the physics of a microbus.

If they only die on one stretch of road and come back on the street, you do not have broken hardware. You have a crowded band. Wired earbuds in a bag cost little and do not care about the man next to you live-streaming.

When it is the buds

One side always dead at home? Case light acting drunk? They only hold a charge for an hour now? That is wear or a cheap clone, not the bus. Then the buying checks from a gadget shop matter  official pack, working serial, a return window.

Until then, do not throw a working pair at a radio problem.
